Huzzah!

2011 September 14

Okay, so we have ANOTHER new staff member joining the team! Welcome Lillian! She joins us as a very long-time helper both sending us updates from the lost list, and more recently sending is TONS of new pets to add to the site!

This brings up to 7 currently active staff members (8 if you include me) which is the most we’ve ever had! Hopefully we’ll now have an easier time staying on top of the Lost list!

That doesn’t mean you can’t still help us out though by letting us know when you adopt a pet, or notice one has been adopted. We appreciate every submission we get, whether a simple update on a pet’s status, or a whole new pet to add to the database! Thank you all so much, without you, there wouldn’t be a site!

P.S. For all the smaller updates, including when I’m doing a board on the PC, and bonus special pets, join us on Facebook.

Welcome to the Crazytrain!

I have an announcement folks! I have asked Charlene to be staff, and she has accepted! Charlene joins us after a VERY long time of being an all around big help both on keeping the Lost list up to date, and sometimes contributing names as well!

She’ll be helping the rest of us keep up with the ever growing task of keeping the site up to date, and helping Sme and I keep our respective sanity (well what’s left of it anyways!)

Welcome to the crazy life Charlene!

P.S. For all the smaller updates, including when I’m doing a board on the PC, and bonus special pets, join us on Facebook.

P.P.S. Instead of asking how you can be staff too, read this blog post from earlier this year

Another post about reposting pets

I think it’s about time for ANOTHER post about reposting pets from the site onto boards. (Please folks, if you haven’t regularly read all the updates, go back and read the old ones, they answer a LOT of questions)

I would like to request that people not create boards to post the pets on this site, particularly not when they’re being added to the site, as it pretty much guarantees that I have a board going at that moment myself. Instead find my board and come hang out with us!

If you absolutely MUST post a name to a board, please be courteous and let people know you found it through the Lost and Pound BEFORE YOU POST THE FIRST STUCK PET (if they ask what that is, or how to find pets, link them to OldWays’ petpage for the petpage version of the site, or to Lorrenn’s petpage for the FAQ on finding pets.)

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT spread misinformation about finding stuck pets, or pretend it’s a secret that only you know how to find.

Yes, this site is for helping stuck pets find a home, and it is public for all to see, but I would like it if people saw the site themselves, and that we got proper credit for all the hours upon hours of hard work we all put into it finding the pets, and keep the site up to date.

As usual, become a fan of our Facebook page to get Facebook exclusive pets, and much more frequent small updates!

Okay, so apparently I’ve confused, excited, and upset a good portion of people, so I thought I’d explain. Yes, there are two “robot krawks” listed, no they don’t exist. Read their names. ;-)

They are directed at users of a program that simply uses the pets posted on the Lost and Pound’s site, and regurgitates them without credit give as to where they come from. I’m hoping a few people who use the program may see the krawks (that’ll ge their attention right?) and maybe find out that the ILLEGAL program they’re using is a scam and a crock anyways.

Why put your account AND your computer at risk to get pets that everyone can see when refreshing at the Lost and Pound main site?

Thanks to one former user of this program who found out what a crock it was, and informed me what was going on.

Everything else on the site is as usual :-) Had a nice long 4-hour board tonight, posted lots of painteds/LEs/etc, and will have plenty more to post soon!

Much love to all our supporters!

Happy Easter/Passover/Negg Festival!

I hope you’re all enjoying your spring celebration of choice this weekend! After a week’s worth of hail, we finally went back to spring-like weather today! Hoorah!

Some big(ish) news, that many of you may have figured out already: We’ve decided to begin updating kois and kikos immediately, as we do tonus, rather than saving them up for when I do the PC boards. This should make it easier for all you looking for a kiko/koi to zap or paint to get one, even if your time online rarely coincides with one of the boards! :-)

The site continues to be added to nearly daily, filled with TONS of new manual searches. I am going to try and finish adding the last of the RW searches this weekend, though I’m very booked up this weekend, between work Saturday, and plenty of other plans crammed in!

I have been updating the Lost and Pound Facebook Page with many more short updates than I do these blog posts. The updates include links to the PC boards, Facebook exclusive pets, and other Lost and Pound related details that don’t require a huge update. Become a fan today!

Also, if you haven’t read previous block posts, go back and check them out. Some are just updates, but several answer in depth questions that get asked often (like how to help out!)

We hit 10,000!!!

2011 April 8

That’s right, tonight at 8:44 NST, we had 10,000 pets on the Lost list! This is an accomplishment that brings mixed feelings. One the one hand it shows all the amazing work that’s gone into the site increasingly over the last year and a half. On the other hand it also shows that there are soooo many stuck pets out there, that can’t be adopted fast enough! (After all there are only 5 of us, and thousands of you!!!)

So this means you need to keep spreading the good word folks! Adopt stucks as permies, or as labrats! Encourage your friends to do so! Share our Facebook Page with others! Put buttons to our petpage version on your formerly stuck pet’s lookups and petpages! Spread the word!!!

Finally I’d just like to thank everyone involved up to this point, those of you that adopt pets, those of you that find them, those of you that help keep our lists updated, and everyone else who’s had anything to do with us over the years. I’d especially like to thank our staff both past and present, thank you for making my life so much easier and more enjoyable, and for helping shape the site as you see it today! I love you guys!

RWs again!

2011 April 1

Alright, as promised on our Facebook fan page, I have begun adding yet more RWs from my latest dictionary search! I’ve got a busy weekend ahead, however I’ll try to keep adding them whenever I have a few minutes to spare! The list is large, so enjoy!

On Becoming Staff

2011 March 23

I have been getting a LOT of questions from people wishing to become a staff member, so I thought it was time to write up this post that I’ve been thinking about on and off forever.

First thing you should know about being a staff member, is that there is NO application process. I don’t post openings, and I do not accept applications in any form, whether a simple “i want to be staff” to a full out application with cover letter, etc. If I think you’d be the right fit, I will contact YOU.

In order to be considered you have to bring something to the table. All the people who have been asked to become staff have been long time contributors/helpers to the site, whether manually searching new names all the time and sending them to me, or going through the Lost list all the time and sending me the names of adopted pets (usually a combination of the above.)

I look for consistency, and a desire to help, just for the sake of helping, with no expectation of anything aside from a thank you in return. A lot of people come an go, and while I greatly appreciate every bit of help, no matter how big or small the contribution, I cannot make every single person a staff member. Many people really get into it, help loads in a short span of time, and then fall off the face of the earth, whether it’s because they were expecting to be made staff and are disappointed that 3 weeks later, they still aren’t, or because their Neopets interests have changed, or whether they’ve just gotten really busy in real life, or even just lost interest in Neopets altogether. The only people I consider are people who are around frequently for a LONG period of time. (Lauren my first hire was active and consistent for YEARS before being asked aboard. While I don’t quite wait that long anymore, it will be many months at minimum, often longer.)

A staff member has to earn my trust, and I have to feel like I know them inside and out before offering them anything. We have to be friends. So I’m sorry but if you annoy me, or we just don’t mesh well, you’re never going to be staff. While not technically a requirement, all current staff members are adults.

If I ever feel the time is right, I must be able to contact you, this seems obvious, but the thing is, I can’t contact you about the site through neomail. So if you are only willing to neomail, you’re automatically out of the running.

Even if you can’t be staff, there’s no reason you can’t help out anyways! Contact us if you know of a pet stuck in the pound, or if you notice a pet has been adopted and is still listed as lost! If that’s not your thing, we’re always on the lookout for more buttons and banners for the site, as well as many other things, as listed in our FAQ!

Facebook exclusives

Last night I began what I hope to be a regular feature of our Facebook Fan Page. I posted the name of a painted pet for the fans! I hope to do this sporadically, though when and how often will depend on my time and all that good stuff.

Become a fan today, and you’ll be able to see these pets in your own news feed!

Congratulations to Bunny for getting the first one, a Clay Jubjub!

Nearly 500 adopted!

2011 March 15

I finished going through the ENTIRE lost list tonight, (yes all 9502 when I started out the night), and found that a whopping 485 of them were adopted!!!

Please let us know when you adopt a pet, or come across one that’s been adopted, so we can update it quickly!

While doing all the updates, I also ran two long boards adding a TON and a half of pets, particularly Jetsams and kikos, though plenty of others as well!

Alright, it’s late, and I need to get up rather early tomorrow, so I think I’m done for the night!
